After pointing out this observation my ex-wife started looking at couples too. She didn't see an ugly man with an attractive woman either.

If I had to, I'd say I was around a 5 (maybe a 4). My ex-wife was in my opinion a 6, though many others would say she was a 7. I never found her attractive.

I also admit the existence of rare outliers, I don't think a 1 with a 10 is impossible. Merely highly unlikely. I personally have never seen such an outlier.

I was asking questions, trying to be clear on things.  If that's projection - okay then.  

You married someone you were not attracted to...I assume (read that again, I assume) you mean you weren't physically attracted to her.  But there must have been something there that you liked unless you were held at gunpoint to marry her.
