The Late Mexican Pop Superstar Juan Gabriel Was Molested by a Priest at Age 13, a New Documentary Reveals

In the four-part docuseries Juan Gabriel: I Must, I Can, I Will, which premiered on Netflix Thursday, Oct. 30, a narrator reveals that the singer-songwriter —whose death in 2016 was mourned by political leaders (then-Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and then-U.S. President Barack Obama) and fellow musicians, including John Fogerty—was molested by a priest in his youth.

"At 13, he was forced to work as a helper in the house of a priest who molested him, propositioned him," the narrator reveals.

When he was alive, Juan Gabriel never publicly stated he was molested by a priest.

Oklahoma pastor accused of trafficking members of his church, facing multiple charges

“Victims told our Agents they were forced to work for Flores without compensation, and he would threaten them with physical harm if they attempted to leave, claiming he was a member of the violent gang, MS-13," said OBN Spokesman Mark Woodward. "And Flores used his influence as a pastor to spiritually coerce the victims by targeting their religious convictions. One victim told Agents that Flores gave her a test to prove her ability to resist temptation. During this test, the victim was sexually battered by Flores."

In April, Flores was arrested by Oklahoma City Police on three counts of lewd acts with a child and was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail.

In October, his charges were amended to include five counts of human trafficking for labor and one count of sexual battery.

“I am proud of the work by the men and women of our Human Trafficking Unit to get this predator off the streets so he can no longer prey on the innocent and vulnerable, and I am grateful that the victims in this investigation are receiving support and assistance," said OBN Director Donnie Anderson.

Former pastor at St. Joseph church faces criminal sexual conduct charges involving minors

A former pastor at Grace Lutheran Church and School is facing several criminal sexual conduct charges involving minors following his arrest earlier this month.

59-year-old Glenn Rosenbaum was arrested by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office on Nov. 7 after a year-and-a-half investigation that began with allegations made against him in March 2024. He is currently being held in the Berrien County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

Rosenbaum is facing two counts of criminal sexual conduct with someone under 13 years old and two counts of criminal sexual conduct relationship. The Berrien County Prosecuting Attorney confirmed that three minors were involved.

According to Michigan law, the felony charges Rosenbaum is facing are punishable by up to 15 years in prison. He is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.

OH Pastor Pleads Guilty to Rape

George Bell, 73, was arrested in November 2024. He was charged with four counts of rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition of a minor younger than 10. The alleged crimes happened between 2021 and 2024 when he was pastor at Anchor Baptist Church.

As part of Bell’s plea agreement, he pleaded guilty to two counts of rape in exchange for having the other charges dropped.

Bell founded Anchor Baptist Church in 1989 and pastored the church until his resignation in June 2024.

In its initial statement on July 3, 2024, church leaders alerted the congregation to Bell’s resignation. “To our knowledge there was nothing untoward involving church members or church property,” they wrote. “We are grateful for his and Mrs. Bell’s years of service to Anchor Baptist Church and ask for your prayers for them during this difficult time.”

Bell faces 15-20 years in prison. He will be 88 years old when he is first eligible for release, at which point he would be required to register as a Tier III sexual offender.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, the father of Bell’s victim spoke in court before the sentencing. He said Bell was the opposite of God-fearing and deserves every second of punishment he would receive.

Former youth pastor charged with sexual assault of a teenager

Adolfo Castillo, 36, is accused of sexually assaulting a teenager younger than 16 at a local church, according to court documents.

Court records say the victim told a church counselor that Castillo assaulted her at the Restoration Church located on the 2700 block of Broadbent Parkway NE.

Court documents state he was a youth pastor at the church and that the assaults began about two years ago. New Mexico State Police said the two communicated on Snapchat.

Records said that in May 2024, Castillo became violent toward her. The victim told investigators that he had sexual intercourse with her at her home and recorded the encounter.

Clay County youth pastor jailed, charged with multiple sex crimes

Donald Aaron Axtell, a former Associate Youth Pastor, has been charged with felony second-degree statutory rape, possession of child pornography, and furnishing pornographic material to a minor.

Axtell is currently in custody at the Clay County Jail on a $100,000 bond, according to Clay County Prosecuting Attorney Zach Thompson.

“The alleged offense not only constitutes a serious violation of the law, but a grievous betrayal of the trust placed with an associate youth pastor to shepherd our community’s children,” said Prosecutor Thompson.

Young Girls Were Sexually Abused by a Church Member. They Were Told to Forgive and Forget.

Over the course of about 20 years in two states, Massie had sexually abused children within the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, or OALC, community. He touched girls under blankets when their parents were present, in the backseat of a car with other passengers — even in the pews at church. His abuse was such an open secret among the tight-knit congregation that mothers warned their daughters to stay away from him.

Some former victims, as adults, confronted preachers, including Bruckelmyer, about what Massie had done to them. Church leaders told Massie to stay away from the congregation’s children, and they sent him to a therapist who specialized in sex offender treatment.

But they never reported Massie’s crimes to police, as required by the law. Instead, Bruckelmyer and other leaders in the church encouraged the victims to take part in forgiveness sessions — which allowed Massie, now 50, to continue abusing children.

In December 2024, he pleaded guilty to four counts of felony criminal sexual conduct with victims under the age of 13. In March, a judge sentenced him to 7 1/2 years in prison. Church officials, including Bruckelmyer, were not charged in connection with Massie’s crime, but prosecutors said they should have done more to stop him.

“It gives the appearance of a group of people who are not just trying to protect someone — but something,” Mike Ryan, the assistant St. Louis County attorney who prosecuted Massie, said at his sentencing. “And they have enabled something awful here.”

Law enforcement there first became aware of the allegations against Massie in 2017. They said that the church’s lack of cooperation — including pressuring potential witnesses and victims to stay quiet about the abuse and preachers failing to report it to authorities — was a major factor in the delay in bringing charges.

For the girl who said she was pressured to forgive Massie at Bruckelmyer’s office, the silence that followed only compounded her trauma. She reported struggling with debilitating anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder in her teens. She grew tense every time she walked into the church, especially when she saw Massie holding another little girl.

“I lived in darkness for so many years of my life because I couldn’t talk about it,” the girl said in a recorded interview with police. “Multiple times in my life I wanted to die.”
