I'm rather taken aback this hasn't already been brought up but according to various verses of the Bible Jesus gave himself up as penance for the sins of humanity and all that.

Just to give you a couple of verses from the King James Version;
Revelation 1:5
"And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood"

John 1:29
"The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."

Romans 3:25
"Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;"

Whats your take on that then? Presumably you believe the crucifiction took place. In your opinion was it simply another sadistic execution or the relinquishing of a human beings life on the part of God to wash away the sins of mankind?
If the latter then what distinguishes that from the very definition of a human sacrifice?

My bad, I was mistaken. I thought I had put a quote of his in there somewhere. It was his disciples who claimed this. They also refer to him constantly as "the lamb of God" which by jewish lore makes him the sacrifice by which all humanities sins are removed. So his disciples were wrong?

Well, I can't be sure that his desciples' writings were not corrupted and changed. However, those verses are wrong in my opinion.

I'd still argue theres no way you can honestly claim to be able to discern between the truth and the lies if indeed there is any truth to be had in The Bible but thats another thread.

Alright and I understand it conflicts but understand thats just another verse.
It has no more proof to its validity over any other.
Theres no reason to believe any of it.
