Thinking

Intertesting that you chose to take DP's statement out of context (especially when you guys are usually so shit-hot about demanding context).

For reference, here is the full context, complete with the linkback you inadvertantly omitted:

Many of us are ex-Christians and even those who aren't are still savvy enough that we've heard all the endlessly recycled, canned apologetic arguments. If you do offer these arguments, do not expect anything more than irritated GTFO or STFU retorts. Hearing the same tired arguments over and over gets old.

Note the all-important "and" in that first sentence. Nowhere does he say "don't bother posting this stuff unless you want to be told GTFO or STFU". What he actually says is "If you do post this stuff, please be aware that it's nothing we haven't heard before, so don't act surprised if you you do attract such irritated responses".
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

No, he says "do not expect anything more than irritated GTFO or STFU retorts," which means no debate. You really shouldn't try to recharacterize something that's right there for all to see.

I don't intend to argue the point with you. I shall leave it to the rest of the audience to determine the character of DP's words, now the full context is restored.

It's hilarious how people can miss the obvious when they want to eh?

Just what I was thinking. I'm laughing my G-string off here.

Good call on your part. "If you do offer these arguments, do not expect anything more than irritated GTFO or STFU retorts" speaks for itself.

If he wants to say he's changed his mind on that and is now only advocating a collection of resource threads, that's fine - but pretending that that was his position all along is bullshit.

His position, from the beginning, was to rise above circular conversation. Sorta like this ones become.
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

Then that makes this the perfect thread to link to newcomers. Smile
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Oh yes, saying STFU and GTFO are good tactics for rising above inferior conversation...Angel
