The only thing about this promo I liked was where the lady said "It's very dangerous to use the bible for a pretext for anything". This is not geared to skepticism, it is designed to make the believer gasp and say "I'll show you".

History now showing the premiere on Wednesday the 13th rather than Monday.
No clue why. (November 8, 2013 at 4:09 pm)Brian37 Wrote: The only thing about this promo I liked was where the lady said "It's very dangerous to use the bible for a pretext for anything". This is not geared to skepticism, it is designed to make the believer gasp and say "I'll show you". I've seen her on The Big Questions, a show in the UK I found on youtube a while ago. She seems pretty knowledgable and level-headed when it comes to dealing with crackpo-- I mean religious people. It might be interesting - but if it conflicts with Survivor there's no way I'm watching it.
Teenaged X-Files obsession + Bermuda Triangle episode + Self-led school research project = Atheist.

All I was saying was that I'd seen that particular woman on a UK debate show and she seemed to know what she was talking about with regards to the debates she was participating in. I'm not even 100% on whether she's a theist or not, all I know is that she was defending the skeptical/atheist side. I assume she is but you know what happens when you ass-u-me. As for whether the show itself is geared toward a skeptical viewpoint or not, I don't necessarily know that that can be determined until the first episode airs; teasers for new programs can be misleading. FYI, I looked it up and it looks like it's airing on the US West coast on History Channel at 7pm on Wednesday the 13th.

The dark-haired woman in the promo is Francesca Stavrakopoulou, who is no fan of orthodox anything. I think the older woman was Elaine Pagels.

this looks good. I'll take notes and we can go over them point by point if you like.

Marcellus (approx. A.D. 298)
“I threw down my arms for it was not seemly that a Christian man, who renders military service to the Lord Christ, should render it by earthly injuries.” “It is not lawful for a Christian to bear arms for any earthly consideration.
hmmm... I wonder... how many remakes of the same thing are out there?
