Why Should Someone Be an Atheist?

RE: Why Should Someone Be an Atheist?
I am aware scholars are convinced the Bible was written by 40 authors over 1500 years. But the same can't be said for the Koran.

Even if the Bible - or any other 'sacred' writing - were to have a sufficiently convincing provenance (i.e., Paul wrote Galatians, the gospel authors wrote the books attributed to them, Moses wrote the Pentateuch, etc), this would still not be reason enough to believe. All that would be establish is the specific authorship of specific stories. Even further, if it could be established that these works had reached us in the form their authors intended, and that their writing was sincere, I would still be an atheist.

Speaking strictly for myself, I'm not particularly troubled by a lack of evidence for gods (a sufficiently subtle god wouldn't necessarily be evidentiary in nature), but there aren't even any convincing arguments for the existence of gods.

If you need further information as to 'Why Should Someone Be An Atheist', I strongly recommend Russell's 'Why I Am Not A Christian'.

Everything that is written has to be written by someone. I'm sure this isn't too hard to grasp. The question would be what makes the bible special and real? There are plenty of religious texts plenty of fiction out there.

*shrug* The authorship of 'Moby Dick' is as firmly established as can be, yet I still manage to disbelieve in maniacal peg-legged sea captains hunting malevolent white whales.

The authorship of a piece is no indication of the truth of that piece.

A phenomenon for which there is no possible explanation other than God.

So what?

If I had a hundred people write books about a new god today, and it was all consistent and had our pictures in the books so you could confirm we existed, and someone read those books a million years later and believed them, would that make our new god real, and all the claims about him true?

So what phenomenon do you propose to which there is no other explanation than God?

lol, if I knew of such a phenomenon, I'd be a believer. This is why I'm an atheist. If a Godist wants to convince me, it is up to him/her to come up with such a phenomenon.

So if you accepted the authorship and their genuine testimony, you would have to deal with what they were claiming. For example, if the Apostles said they saw Jesus alive from the dead in various group settings then how would you account for this naturalistically if it was not true?

If you don't know any phenomenon that would convince you then what makes you think anything could convince you?
