Quote:Backpedal? No, you don't understand my meaning. I am talking about religious views on pre-marital sex, not the bible.
Meaning it doesn't exactly apply to this conversation, so why even bring it up?
Actually, it does apply to the conversation. Last I checked, not all of the questions presented mentioned the bible. It is you who seem to want to stick strictly to the bible in this conversation. Again, you are not arguing that pre-marital sex is taboo in many religions, so why do you continue to bring it up as if it were some ace-in-the-hole for you?
Quote:Well yeah, but it's not like the rules are that demanding. I can live with no incest or bestiality.
I love how you say that as if those were the only rules.
Quote:Or you could just call Him 'God', saves a lot of trouble.
For whom? Rest assured, I am hardly troubled by calling "him" the sky-wizard. It really makes no difference to me how I refer to a non-existent entity. I can hardly help it, if it troubles you. It's up to you how you take it.

I'm not even sure what you're on about anymore, let's just drop that one.

And the other demanding rules of "Sex may never be used as a weapon against a spouse, either by depriving the spouse of sex or by compelling it. It is a serious offense to use sex (or lack thereof) to punish or manipulate a spouse." It's really not as hard as you're making it out to be.

It seems very unnecessary. It makes no point and does nothing besides taking a childish shot at religion.

I'm not surprised.

You're still leaving one out. You know, that one that's not in the bible.

It may not be necessary, but it sure does get people offended for no reason. It shows you what I equate your god with, if you must have a reason.

About pre-marital sex? Yeah, that's not really an issue. No specific rule was against it until some time after the Bible was actually written, so it ranks pretty low on my give-a-shit o-meter.

Oh, for pity's sake, Alex. You gave up because you didn't fucking get it. Let me make it simple: I made a point in which the bible wasn't mentioned even once; you said, but, but, but the bible; I said I didn't mention the bible; you pretended that the conversation was strictly about the bible so you could ignore what I said; I, again, pointed out that I didn't mention the bible and then you pretended that I was a driveling idiot to make yourself feel better.

So, there is one that doesn't pertain to rape, incest or bestiality? I knew we'd get there someday. I see that you jumped back on the bible. So, are you telling me that you don't have to follow the rules of your religion, if it isn't in the bible?

b) You mentioned premarital sex in the middle of a conversation regarding the Bible and Judeo-Christian beliefs.
This is irrelevant anyway.

Er, yeah, it's kind of my most important holy book.

Or contained in the codifications of the Oral Torah, yes, since that's pretty much the entire Jewish religious law right there.

And how many of the laws in the Torah do you reject?

Oh, these jets are cool, pal. Thanks for the order, though.
Parts of the conversation were not in regard to the bible. That is the point.

So, it's not ALL about the bible?

Quote:Yes I've heard that phrase many times. Lots of people use words without understanding their connotation or meaning , with disregard to how their interpreted. I fully agree that the majority of Christians I've met can't seperate their personal moral standards from the rules set in the bible. If they did, upon closer inspection, they would realize that what they allow themselves to do in their life isn't in line with the teachings of Jesus. So while a lot of Chrsitiasns believe that the US is based off their Christian taught morals, in actuality it's based off of a moralistic status quo based on location and time. So I hold to my rewording and respectfully agree to disagree.
Everything in bold I agree with this some what....I'm just happy they don't follow "Every" rule in the Bible...lol
P.S. I haven't had a chance to read "Alex's" posts yet, but I'm looking forward to it...LOL (Only a little)...
I was wondering when we would get a Jewish believer posting.....
I have some questions for you Alex, and I'll get to them as soon as I have time.. (Sorry for the delay.)
Intelligence is the only true moral guide...

Didn't I show you statistics of Christians who favor creationism in the US and UK?
Weren't they much more than the tiny minority you said they were?
