Most current day US Christian franchise owners are probably pretty happy about all the variations in scripture as it allows for brand differentiation. Congregations that are inclined to tithe faithfully aren't going to be chastised too much for their peccadilloes, management needs the cash flow and there is no shortage of other denominations (or atheists) that are 'doing it wrong' (or not at all) to inspire whatever fire and brimstony sermonation that is needed.

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. Nope, of the 40,000 christian schisms, at the VERY most, only one of them is the One True Faith. Everyone else is DAMNED for blasphemy, apostasy, and heresy.

The reason for this is because some of the differences are massive, like for example the difference between a pentecostal and a eastern orthodox christian. Stick the two in a debate the only thing they will agree on is that jesus was a god figure. On the other hand take the northern baptists and atlantic baptist convention. They believe pretty much the same things with some small exceptions lately. The only real difference is that the Atlantic convention uses a gass roots democratic style of local self governance. So if we think of religions like the tree of life then abrahamic religions would be one class (like mammals are) and each ending denomination would be its own seperate species. Yeah but they all have different bibles and apocrypha anyway, so why wouldnt it be valid to think of them as different games/religions.

There's a definite point in american history where the group re-branded itself as perceptual monolith. They didn't actually work out the differences between their religions, they just realized that they would need solidarity (or at least to be perceived as having such) to survive the changing social environment. If I could remember the title...........I'll get back to you on this, maybe..lol

It may not have to do with clarity but dealing with the subject. In case of a monopoly book, it's something trivial...it's not complicated. But living life is complicated, and people would want to interpret certain words differently regardless of their religion to suit their desires in how they want to live and take ideological stances.
So I feel this is an invalid comparison. RE: The monopoly manual and holy books.

The second great waking? Or maybe that moment where they heard Robert Ingersoll and quietly thought 'Oh. FUCK!" Okay, then how come the teaching of epicurius are also much less contradictory and open to intrepretation when he was dealing with a similiar topic with a even more nuanced mindset? Also given that all we know of his works are either from critics or compilations done by authors long after he died.

Likewise in Christianity, there are common core rules. One common way to identify them is by the major creeds. Outside the points covered in the creeds, people have freedom to change things up. |
