You don't want a council of people who are far better educated than the mass of humanity to deal with many international situations to be making the decisions that go into global politics - you want to be consulted on whether or not we go to war?
I live in the American South. There are people here I wouldn't trust to give me the time of day, directions to the nearest gas station, or even a fair assessment of the weather with both of us standing outside staring up at the sky, much less allow them to have a direct vote in just about ANYTHING. Why? Because they're fucking ignoramuses, and worse, there are plenty of psych studies out there discussing that humans generally assume they're smarter than everyone else around them. That means those idiots who have a low double-digit IQ and probably about as many teeth think they're basically on par with Harvard graduates.
As many problems as I have with representational democracies/republics, I sure as shit don't want the unwashed masses having their fingers in those pies.
