Oh dear indeed.

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

I would date a mature theist. One who had her own beliefs and accepted others' beliefs. Its childish to hold her beliefs against her, *unless* she was proactively trying to convert me because I needed to be "saved."
Just call me doc! im not a doctor though.. Big Grin

My girlfriend is an atheist, believe it or not.I gave her a bible for her birthday (among other things) and she started preaching at me.She was making fun of course and we laughed. Then I told her she was going to go to hell and she said "I'll see you there".I think that is what they call taking dating to a whole new level.

It's always a good sign in a relationship when you can laugh and joke around about that sort of thing. It shows maturity and a vast amount of respect for one another's beliefs and even more about your respective open-mindedness toward one another as well as others.
Either way, sounds like an excellent relationship. Don't let that one go.

It's the same with me and my wife. We don't let differences in opinion get in the way and I see it as a sign of weak character if two people can't get by just because one thinks one thing and the other thinks something else.

I don't think I could do it, I mean I like invisible flying unicorns as much as the next person, but its when people genuinely believe in the existence of such things, that I lose respect for them.

Lets say things go really well, you guys are married, (what kind of marriage would you have?) and a few years later you have a couple of rugrats, she would possibly want them to grow up in the church, and you would...?

I just think at some point or another issues will surface, and they may not cause conflict at all, but they may.

So, it might be safer to say, if you do decide to date a theist - no marriage or children. Voila!

Anyhow, I feel the same way. My parents made it work (atheist + Catholic) but I don't really see my ability to discount their beliefs out of love... I can't love you if I don't respect you.

Well I didn't say all that, it could work. But not for me, like you said "I can't love you if I don't respect you."
