Wow. Thanksgiving must be interesting. I've never really experienced any Wiccans, besides a few acquaintances. Are yours into spells, black cats and stuff or are they mostly 'one-with-nature'/Celtic pantheistic types?
My mother's side, like I previously said, are all Presbyterian. My father is a Deist. His father, grandfather and great-grandfather were all apathetic (probably atheist/deist) Irish Catholics. My sister is an atheist. Most of my cousins are casual Christians or agnostics, though I have one who is a Buddhist. It makes for interesting conversations. Ironically my sister and I (the only two real atheists) are the two who argue the most when our family has a religious discussion; but, there are plenty of other reasons for that. rofl

Spells, not so much like you would read in a fantasy novel or "Wicca for Dummies" (there is such a book by IDG)

I look at the concept of God/Goddess more as archetypes rather than deities throwing their weight around the Universe, which is why my wife is somewhat confused as to my actual belief system. It doesn't confuse me, however I am not sure I can explain it (nor am I sure anyone would be interested in it anyway), but I view the God/Goddess idea of Wicca as more of an ideal of male/femaleness of most life on Earth, and as for the fertility rite aspect of Wicca, I am all for that.

I also have a healthy dose of Discordia in my life, and with all the chaos in it, I can almost imagine someone directing chaos, fnord. And as for Discordian ritual, most Discordians aren't much into ritual anyway. My wife and I were married in a Discordian rite we wrote, however, and our private ceremony was only attended by a chipmunk. She ate the golden delicious apple after the rite was over. (Eris disguised as a chipmunk, perhaps?)

As for ritual, any sort of ritual can be calming to the mind, and probably better for my epilepsy than the pheonbarbital I take for it.

But what is calming to my mind right now is the flash flood here is over, and the thunderstorms are passing away to the east.

I wouldn't up the ritual while decreasing the meds, but that's just me. You seem to lean the way most wiccans I've known lean, spiritual but not religious. Pagans with no teeth....wheres the beating heart offered to the sun, or the stingray tail genital piercing to coax the rain from the clouds?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

So, somewhat metaphorically or do you attribute to them unique existence and/or supernatural status? Also, I thought Discordia was like the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster?

I dated and created a child with a theist. A member of the very conservitive and dogmatic Church of Christ, no less. The child is now 12 and shows signs of enormous doubt, despite being raised exclusively by her grandparents in a very Christian home. This causes enormous friction, as you might guess. Thgey set out to program her and it seems to have failed. You know who gets the blame? Me. And I'll take it.

If you're an Atheist would you go out with a Theist?

And vice versa if you're a Theist.
No. I just couldn't see myself doing it. Such a relationship gave Darwin a lot of stress later on in his life when he began to become more skeptical. Luckily, the person I like is an atheist and science lover.

I made the mistake of marrying one - although at the time, her belief was passive. 15 years later, she became a "born-again" fundamentalist young-earther.

Never again.

Man that sucks :|. Brains are far too susceptible to changing opinion. This can be a good thing, or, like in your case, a bad thing.
