Sir Arthur Conan Doyle believed in fairies. A green elf climbed through George Ellery Hale's window and told him to get money from Rockefeller for the world's (then) largest telescope. Newton was a practising alchemist.
These men and what they personally believed are indeed fascinating, but irrelevant next to the work they left behind.
