Be honest, am I going to hell for "my" atheism?

This is what you would expect from a group of evolved life forms on a rock flying through space. Bad shit is going to happen.

But just suddenly having God appear in the middle of all this mess is ridiculous. If you assume this planet and its life were somehow crafted, by someone who isn't a sick fuck, you would expect to see something entirely different. People's minds are grounded by the part of their brain that deals with reality and accepts suffering is just something that happens, but then contradicted by the part of their brain that says someone is behind all this and only wants good things. Where did all this horrible shit come from? God either designed or permitted every atrocious thing such as drowning in water, needing to keep eating or else you die a hideous slow death, bacteria which attack you and cause horrible diseases, the desire to rape and murder...

Or, if you think this is "good enough", and god really couldn't have done any better, then you think he is either incompetent or uncaring. He made the rules, remember.

Unless the rules were already there? Did he have to work around such arbitrary restrictions as "people have to suffer to appreciate happiness"?

Bah. I'm getting a bit tired of this. Apologising for God being such a dick sounds exactly like an abused spouse who is so mentally broken down they think they deserve the beatings they get, and that they need their abuser. The saddest thing of all is the fact that this abuse is coming from a figment of their own imagination. It makes me so sad Sad

If god exists which is impossible i wen't over this. He would be committing spiritual child abuse.
And his followers for the most part has beaten wife syndrome. In the bible it say's you are commanded to fear and love god and that god loves you back.
Wait so they don't see the fear part they want the fluffy bunny god no they get the drunken dad holding a belt and a beer.

Nice dodge, shall I assume you don't have any actual response, since you're lowered yourself to strawmanning me again? Or do you want to actually answer the full content of my post, which I see you've conveniently deleted. Dodgy

Yeah right! When asked to provide rational foundations for your positions you retreat into nominalism and reductionist assumptions. The only one who is dodging is you trying not to face your tacit nihilism.

Getting sick of tu quoque, it's becoming about 75% of theist posts now according to that number I just made up.

How about addressing arguments guys rather than deflecting back at us?

So Mezmo do you think it is moral to allow self harm?

Sayeth the guy who hides behind Medieval realism to mask the bankruptcy of his own moral position, i.e., the "fact" that his religion's moral code is based on nothing more than what the alleged creator decrees is moral in this or that situation (smashing the heads of infants of the 'wrong' tribe ok if Yahweh says so) and is one 'revelation' away from further revision.  Your tacit irrationality is showing, Professor Adler.  No amount of mere assertion will allow you to escape the legacy of your so-called holy book, and Aquinas can't save you from your slavishness.

I keep saying that I'm not apologizing for God and you guys keep saying that I am.  Read my lips--I'm not apologizing for God!  He made the world the way it is and christians go through these adversities relying on God to take them through well, with the promise of peace in this world and after vs non-believers who struggle through it on their own and have no promise of peace here or after.  This seems like love to me.  Too bad you have to close your eyes and hide from the world, rather than facing the world with confidence, knowing that everything is going to turn out okay.

OK, I'm sorry if I misinterpreted you. If you think he's got nothing to apologize for, I think you have very low standards for a god that's meant to care about us.

Hide from what? I'm not hiding. The only one hiding is God.

I see the world as it is. It's fucking terrible I'm afraid. It has so much suffering that I have to pretend it's not happening just to get through the day.

If I was God for one solitary second, I'd end all suffering, simple as that. The fact that he hasn't means he's a complete bastard and not worthy of anyone's respect. Or else, he can't. You talk of God like he's a minor boon rather than omnipotent. I mean, if you don't think he is, then things are somewhat different. What do you think about that?

I was making the argument over on TTA that I couldn't care less if there is a god, or if the bible God is real. It would make no difference to me, because I'm not worshipping anyone; least of all the monster Yahweh. So it makes no difference to me whether he is real or not. It just means the difference between christians worshipping nothing and worshipping a sick tyrant. I'm certainly not interest in his twisted games.

If you must pretend that so much suffering exists, then it appears that you are hiding from the world. What do call that? If someone would say that he is going to take away your fear of the suffering and give you peace and confidence while facing this suffering would you be interested? Or would you say " No way! I don't like you and I'm not interested?
