Disgusting.

Worth mentioning that the death on the London Olympics was actually a chap who had a heart attack. There was not a single construction related death for the London Olympics, which I think might be a first.

EDIT: Just noticed I use 'worth mentioning' a lot ^_^

The situation in Qatar is beyond despicable. I should get around to expanding my vocabulary to ever-stronger words, but 'omnishambles' will suffice for now.
1200 people killed so far, and a projected 4000 at the end. How the FUCK can this be in any way acceptable? Oh right, money.
Be right back, gonna go punch a wall.

Professional sports as usual.
This is just the way sports are.  With American football, for example, the ordinary playing of the game results in brain damage for many of the players.  And of course boxing has always been about people hurting each other, but it keeps going on as well.

Basically, as long as people watch, then there is money for it, from advertising revenue.

If you are serious about these things being an issue for you, you won't watch the games.  If you do watch, you are helping these things to happen.  Bitching about it online isn't going to stop it.  But if people stopped watching, that would stop this sort of thing.

Of course, I expect someone to say, if they personally stopped watching, it would not stop, because other people are watching.  That is true, but if one watches, one is part of the problem.  Pretending otherwise is just pretend.

It's all about revenue, you're right. Recently the Premiership signed a very lucrative TV deal which sees clubs getting hundreds of millions from TV contracts alone each year just for being apart of the league itself. The WC is where companies and clubs come to tout their business and earn millions off the back of it.

If we as football fans (and, in the case of Qatar, supporters of even the most basic of human rights) want to see things improve, then we need I think to hit their wallets in top of increasing political pressure to start seriously investigating corruption in FIFA and football in general. I have no doubt that the troubles in FIFA are endemic and filter down to multiple levels.

That would also do, I must admit I wore that one out a few years back along with 'cunt' from sheer overuse.
