My point is, the "care" provided to prisoners isn't free to them; they have to work for it. Prison is a punishment; you are locked up and made to work. The reason why we have to provide shelter and food is because we have to contain the prisoners for the public good, and that means actually looking after them as well, since we don't believe in the death penalty, let alone the death penalty for any crime committed.
What about those prisoners on death row do you think they get to work for it and how many sit on death row for decades? Further the fact that prisoners do work has nothing to do with the outside world and how the unemployed are being treated. You're talking about systems that are exclusive within themselves.
Quote:If this were the case, why aren't people lining up to get into prison? What is illogical is your blanket statement that criminals are better treated than law abiding citizens, which is clearly not the case.
As I said this line of thinking is just whack. You want to compare oranges to avocados and it doesn't work. Who would want to be incarcerated in a crowded gang filled prison.
The world is a dangerous place to live - not because of the people who are evil but because of the people who don't do anything about it.
