Exams which focus mainly on memorisation rather than application are dumb.
Even though I'm really good at such exams, they are still dumb. In the real world, you don't just rely on memory all the time. You look things up. It's knowing how to apply what you look up that is important. Just trying to memorise everything and referring only to that is going to lead to unecessary errors.
For example, 40% of my maths exams at uni were simply regurgitating things. And that is enough the pass. So someone with excellent memory can pass, without knowing anything about maths. That's stupid.
