I don't mean to be a pessimist, but it is my understanding that the vast majority of people are stubborn, self-centred and hostile to each other.
Indeed. That's part of the human condition,it has nothing to do with beliefs or lack of them necessarily.
Religious beliefs seem to bring out the best in some people, the worst in others and seem to have little effect on most as far as I can tell.---By that I mean I have not yet devised a way to determine what a person believes based soley on their behavior.
