It may be thought that it may be compared to the end of a war in which many people were sacrificed and that the people that survived were glad it's over but also feeling sorry about the loss of life.
I've noticed you trying to use a war analogy. The problem is that there's supposedly this omnipotent being that could solve the problem any way he wants, but prefers bloodshed and war. If this is how things are going, then it can only be because Yahweh prefers it this way. Which is why many accuse him of being evil, stupid, apathetic, or all of the above.
