Quote:We do value our freedom here in Texas. As I write from soggy Central Texas, the cable news is showing people floating down Buffalo Bayou on their principles, proud residents of the largest city in these United States that did not grow in accordance with zoning ordinances.
The feeling there was that persons who own real estate should be free to develop it as they wish. Houston, also known as the Bayou City, is a great location because of its access to international shipping in the Gulf of Mexico. It is not a great location for building, though, because of all its impervious cover. If water could easily sink into the ground, there would be less of it ripping down Houston’s rivers that just a week ago were overcrowded streets.
Yeah... the market works just fine!
To be fair Houston has always been a *sings* danger zone. Seriously they have had to rebuild that city more times than... well you get the point. You see Texans are too proud to give up and there is too much money to made during the good times to let that spot go. Actually our capital was on the coast for awhile till they decided they had enough of swamps and mosquitos and moved it to Austin.

My coworker had power out from 9pm to 2am but that's the worst I've heard in this area. Maybe someone closer to the coast or near a flood area had it longer? Fun fact there is only ONE natural lake in Texas and it is on the border of Louisiana. The rest are man made and not meant to take as much water as Texas likes to give during her non drought times. A lot of places flood because of this. The town of Wimberly was nearly taken off the map a year or two ago. My husband is a paramedic so he gets to listen to all the radio talk. Apparently 10 arrests have been made for people moving barricades and then getting stuck and calling 911 to be rescued. People are stupid.

Oh. My. God. Texas fire ants are the spawn of Satan. (can you tell I'm from the bible belt with my lingo? lol) My poor sister stood in a pile when she was not quite 2 and had to go to the ER from over 200 bites. I've never seen my step dad so terrified as when he realized why she was screaming bloody murder and rushing her to the closest water. She still has scars on her legs.

HEB has been a fucking miracle store. I will never shop anywhere else.
Also Also my aunt lives in Texas City on the coast and said Harvey is coming back. They are starting to flood. I don't think this is as over as we thought! :0
