What a damn shame. I really feel for those who had no choice but to stay.
I do not understand, for the life of me, how some people chose to stay in their homes with how this hurricane was being covered. People knew what was going to happen. Evacuation orders were announced. There was time to get shit together and get the hell out. And if they say they don't watch the news, then all they had to do was look around them and see people boarding up windows, buying up supplies, packing their cars, etc.
Addressing only the people who stayed through choice, not through lack of ability to leave point:
They stay for the same reason they piss and moan about the news "fear mongering" about the upcoming snow storm or schools proactively closing and then the storm arrives and there's three arrant flakes of snow. "What was all the talk about? PSH! The fake news is at it again!" And then when a snow storm arrives and way worse than predicted they piss and moan about how they should have known this was coming and should have shut down schools ahead of time and should have had all the snow plow trucks ready or should have salted the roads....
It's people being completely unaware of the hindsight bias.
