Congratulations, the “traditional family” now
has either yet another Tartuffe or yet another Svidrigailoff (kudos to those of you who got that.)
I just don't like that you keep using the word "them" to make generalized statements about an entire group of people. There exist hypocrites in all groups. I support traditional family, and I don't cheat or sexually abuse people.
Fair enough, then again, you’re not in a position to force it on people for whom it may not work and at least your marriage is working, so you can walk the walk. Imagine an old time temperance meeting where the speaker talks about the evils of alcohol, then, between paragraphs, takes a swig out of a whiskey bottle, and still has the pull to have the Vollstead act and the 18th amendment passed.
It’s like the Republican Party is showing how they’ve built their ideology on the sand and are blatantly ignoring the floods coming down...
Really, the problem isn’t traditional marriage in itself; it’s demanding traditional marriage to the exclusion of everything else and then, just to rub salt in the wound, demonstrating how it’s simply not a viable solution for every relationship.
Case in point, here’s a blog I follow; it’s written by a self-described (at least until last year) evangelical Christian with five kids and a good relationship with his wife, and, when things come to the issue of the shortcomings of the “traditional” sexual politics of the right, he does not pull any punches:
