I can totally understand that such a belief could be comforting (if you ignore the divisive nature of it), but that shouldn't be confused with the truth of the idea.

This is of course absurd. At most, it could affect what kind you get, if there really is some terminally bored gatekeeper assigning afterlife quality based on people's beliefs about those afterlives. But that's such a convoluted scenario that it's not worth taking seriously. You may as well worry that your beliefs about shoes decide your quality of afterlife, due to some hypothetical shoe-obsessed superbeing.
