The position that ultimately humans arrive, ("we don't know / we can't know".. therefore must just "carry on" as the French Enlightenment said "il faut cultiver notre jardin") ... atheists, agnostics, AND believers ALL ... at the same place (intellectually) is a traditional (European) Christian position. Suprise.
The highest form of Christian practice was described by the Medieval mystics (John of the Cross, Teresa of Avila, ... with their "Dark Night of the Souls", earlier the desert mystic John of Ford), and the unknown writer of the Medieval "Cloud of Unknowing" : https://www.catholicspiritualdirection.o...nowing.pdf , and in the modern era, the famous Catholic writer, Thomas Merton. This position is also virtually equivalent to that of Chinese Tao practice and various Buddhist practice, in a practical sense. Merton recognized that, and in fact died in the Far East at a conference about just that subject.

Every religion is true one way or another. It is true when understood metaphorically. But when it gets stuck in its own metaphors, interpreting them as facts, then you are in trouble. - Joseph Campbell
