Current social media platforms must die. And they will, once the Wild West era is over, once enough customers realize they're being exploited, and start demanding better services for which they will be willing to pay directly, or through taxes. In a decade or two, once Facebooks and Twitters f*ck off and die, the way messengers and Myspace did, and when large enough number of politicians are able to use the technology without the help of their grand-kids - we should see some changes.
Also - people, who think social media is "free speech" are sadly deluded. Platforms like Facebook and Twitter are owned by private companies and they can - and do - silence anyone they please. Not to mention - actively control algorithms that decide, whose speech is heard by whom. I can only shake my head, seeing how many people don't seem to have learned yet, that there's no such thing as a free lunch.
