It's probably expensive because it is farm raised and has a small fringe commercial market. Like Ohio, deer are abundant here in Kentucky. (I scored a 12 point buck two years ago with my 98 Dodge Ram.) If you buy a deer license here you can bag 4-5 deer per license depending on the year. One buck per license. People love venison here and they fill their freezers with it. No need to purchase commercially. I believe Ohio has similar hunting laws.
