There's a reason that christians like our own local drich tell people that they need to be christian before god pops in to say hi. Same reason that buddhist monks meditate. Same reason that shamans poison themselves, submit to exposure, and take mind altering substances. Communing with the divine or hidden world is the quintessential altered state. It's the type, the mold, the actual thing which exists in the world that we do experience and aggressively pursue.
