He's trying to push any judgment until post-election so that 1) he can continue to run unimpeded and 2) if he wins he can pardon himself.
How likely is it that it will work aside from the appeal for immunity thing? Either way, this is just sad. We may know this by now, but he cares only for himself, but he can only do much to avoid his trials.
