A country that embraces endemic private gun ownership, will likely see a corresponding increase in gun crime and violence. Embarking private gun ownership is a moral choice, geddit? Not all gun violence is created equal; two gang bangers killing each other? Okay, whatever - they put on uniforms and they went out and fought, people die. Just keep that shit in the slums.
A civilian being gunned down in the middle of the street? Cheering that on is a failure as a society.
Society's abandonment of inner-city poor and its refusal to fix the conditions that create those gang-bangers is a much bigger failure of society -- I mean, the numbers are much bigger and they're being gunned down in the streets too. It seems to me that your sense of empathy is tied to the economic class of the victim.
