The stats are always BS, in the UK there are about 70% Christian, which is a total lie, it's less by a massive margin, more likely <20%.
The thing is, Russians, and I know a few who back this up, are very religious people. Communism didn't end religion there, it merely removed it from it's privileged position alongside the Tsarist regime. People continued to be religious and now Putin wants them to be more religious by cosying up to the Orthodox Church. Lets face it, it's a great way to control people.
More irreligious and atheistic places are Sweden, France, Denmark, Norway, UK.
