How to gain and lose a friend in 2 weeks.

I select my friends amongst those I deem to be worthy to be at my side when the time comes. Similarly, I would be on their side if the time comes.
However, I also have a word for people I deem to be "associates", rather than friends. These are people I associate with(Bekannte in German), however do not put my trust into as to call them friends. Such people have already crossed me a few times, and I have lost nothing. Those who were my friends, however, never crossed me, and even if they did, they did not so on purpose, but unwillingly, or without knowing. I forgive slight trespasses, as I view them as a test of friendship. Similarly, I commit slight trespasses against people I am considering to call a "friend", to test their friendship and loyalty.
