Lets say you were to meet a member of the opposite sex. Things hit off nicely, and then you find out that they in fact, are a Christian Moderate. You tell them that you're an atheist. If this were truly the end of the conflict between their two beliefs, can they make a relationship work? (I'm completely playing devils advocate here, I'm pretty sure there are less Christian-Atheist marriages than interracial ones of any given combination.)
Just looking to move around some ideas and see what people think.
By moderate Christian, you mean a thorough going Christian with moderate views on political and social issues, or a person who do not object to what defines Christianity in his or her mind, but who take a moderate position on how much Christianity ought to inform her view on material facts?
The former I would have more trouble with, because it seems likely that even on things we agree, our agreement would likely remain superficial. The later I can put up with. A Christian who respect facts in general but would cherry pick aspects of Christianity so as to avoid rejecting it altogether is no more disreputable than the fan of sports team that's been on a losing streak.
