Skeptics view of Genesis
#33
RE: Skeptics view of Genesis
Quote:The servant still makes points that the Lord is the ‘God of Abraham’
Immortality through the respect and honor of those who follow God is apart of Abraham's blessing.

Quote: The manservant is shown to have other people with him when Abraham told him to go by himself!
So? Abraham did not say noo one could accompany him on his journey. Only that he/servant was to go bride hunting alone. Read the passage again. He approach Rebecca alone.

Quote: Oddly enough they gave the Girl the option – this appears that the Girls mother and brother were sceptical!
to what?

Quote: Why does Rebekah have a nurse?
the word in Hebrew is:נערה na`arah It means female servant. Nurse in this content could mean nurse maid/nanny.

Quote:Interesting that it was a done deal – that he married her that night.
they had things to do appearently.

Quote:Genesis 25

 Now we see Abraham giving gifts to his Concubines sons and then sends them away. Abraham is very pick and choosey who he honours.

 Here we see again God showing favouritism to one son over the other!
so?

Quote: How did Isaac know his wife was barren? That makes no sense?!
Probably because he plowed and seeded the field a few seasons with no harvest to show for it.

Quote: Again here we see sinful people talking directly to the ‘Lord’ yet for some reason he never seems to talk to people now a day. Well at least not as directly!
What are you talking about? We have more access to God than any of these people did.

Quote: Why do the parents back then show favouritism to one specific child?
Because they did not lie to themselves as we do. Not all kids are the same.
Quote: It seems they really were one sided.
You can't truthfully say that till you know the kids.

Quote: Ok so Jacob wanted Esau’s birth right for the sake of stew?
Esau thought so little of his 'birth right' as he would sell it for stew.

Quote:Genesis 26

 God said he would bless Isaac and the land he is on?! Why the hell did he let a famine happen in the first place? He even let it happen at the time of Abraham!  Again God said he would bless all Nations on Earth!
How did God bless those nations? What does it mean to be blessed by God?

Quote:God did not reward Abraham out of love it appears it was conditional rewards!
what do you mean?

Quote: What are Gods laws and decrees and commands to Abraham! I don’t see any?!
I do not understand what you are telling me. let alone if there is an actual question here.

Quote:Oh for fuck sake – Isaac telling people yet again Rebekah is his sister – Deception yet again!
The faith of the father is not passed down to the son. The son has to establish his own faith.

Quote:If God blesses people why do these same people need to lie to others won’t god smite them?!
depends on the blessing, and the conditions of said blessing.

Quote: Isaac and Abraham never trusted the people they talked to and felt it easier to lie to them which in some cases hurt the person they were lying to and in other cases made the other people feel shame.
I don't get your point here either... So what would be my knee jerk reaction. Because these men did not grow up in or live to the standards of what it means to live in a modern western/anglo society. Especially one that says that this society is the absolute bench mark of popular morality and all other ways of life must measure up to what you are use to otherwise will be found to be at best lacking, or even immoral.

It seems you have put yourself in the center of the universe and measure everything else against your perceived ideas of what is 'good.'

Quote:So god made Isaac more powerful than the people he was in the company of that’s a bit rude.
see above.

Quote: Love the way people named places even places they didn’t own!
Identification is needed for direction.

Quote:Funny now on the 3rd well they build also the one that was not disputed over they claimed that it was God who gave it to them?
how is that funny?

Quote:Genesis 27

 Here we see God again being friendly with ‘Some’ People and also we can observe that god had to buy Isaacs affection.
where did you read that?

Quote: Oh common so the Kings that allowed Isaac to live in their land needed to reason with him not to kill them that’s still one-sided ness on the side of God!  Lovely Esau had two wives – Must have been nice for him?
This was in Genesis 27?
verse please.

Quote: Isaac does not know the day of his death but is completely confident that his son will hunt an animal and prepare dinner before this happens!
what where his options? to goto the meat market before it closed? They most likely hunted every day for food.

Quote: Why did the statement Isaac made ‘I may give you my blessing before I die’ not match the one that Rebecca said ‘I may give you my blessing in the presence of the LORD before I die?
NKJV reads the same.

because the people who been here longer than a week or two know better.

Isn't this like saying "Unicorns exist, that's what horses are!"? Uh... no...

clueless indeed.

I rarely make an assertion that I can not completely back up. Even if I initially frame it somewhat simplistically.

Maybe you should write a letter to the good people at stanford and tell them what your thoughts are on the subject, and kindly cut me out of your 're-education' of the relationship between dinosaurs and Dragons..
