Christians claim The Bible is the inerrant word of God.The the degree of literalism depends on which flavour one chooses. Christian beliefs are based on a dogmatic canon which has not changed since the C4th CE
Political constitutions remain always subject to change and to even being abolished. This cannot be said of the Torah, The New Testament nor the Qur'an. As far as I'm aware, the last time such a thing was attempted was when the Gospel of Thomas was found at Nag Hammadi in 1945. The Christian churches had a collective hissy fit and rejected it outright.
The American Constitution was adopted in 1787. Since that time there have been 27 amendments, the first ten introducing The Bill Of Rights (1789).To the best to my knowledge there have been no officially recognised amendments to the new testament.
My crack about heresy was in reference to changing the Bible. IN that sens the Bible is anything but 'a living document'
