Conspiracy Theories

RE: Conspiracy Theories
The intentions of the Founding Fathers was to deny women rights from owning property to voting. It was their intention to have half the colonies as slave states where blacks counted as 3/5 ths of a person, and to wage a genocidal war against the natives in order to steal their land. The constitution also states there will be no peace time standing army. I wonder how long this nation would last if we went back to what our wonderful Founding Fathers wanted?

As far as economics, we are no longer the simple agricultural society with a near monopoly on the world's biggest cash crop.

RE: Conspiracy Theories
Here's another one Kensington rune stone, hoax or authentic? New evidence shows that it's feasibly authentic. What does that denote towards templars/viking actually founding U.S.A.?
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

Quote:heretic how? We say the Bible is the living word of God on a weekly basis in our church.

Christians claim The Bible is the inerrant word of God.The the degree of literalism depends on which flavour one chooses. Christian beliefs are based on a dogmatic canon which has not changed since the C4th CE

Political constitutions remain always subject to change and to even being abolished. This cannot be said of the Torah, The New Testament nor the Qur'an. As far as I'm aware, the last time such a thing was attempted was when the Gospel of Thomas was found at Nag Hammadi in 1945. The Christian churches had a collective hissy fit and rejected it outright.

The American Constitution was adopted in 1787. Since that time there have been 27 amendments, the first ten introducing The Bill Of Rights (1789).To the best to my knowledge there have been no officially recognised amendments to the new testament.

My crack about heresy was in reference to changing the Bible. IN that sens the Bible is anything but 'a living document'

Is that signature the modern definition or the ancient Greek?

Ok here's my feeling on it, I believe you're making an incorrect analogy. God doesn't change. Our interpretation of God changes. We keep the Bible true to it's form because it's believed to be inspired by God and therefore the word of God. Your analogy would be more correct in that the Nation exists, but the laws governing it are subject to amendment.

RE: Conspiracy Theories
Here's an even more correct assessment:

"As technology and science increases and we learn more about the world around us, we need to backtrack and change our interpretations of a 3,000 year old book that we live by to fit our belief system."

The catholic church is pretty good at this.

It gets to a point where the bible is allegorical at best, since modern society has a much stronger moral code and allows free thought to flourish for the most part.

Incorrect. Some Christians consider the Bible as potentially errant. Some Catholics cite the council agreeing the current format and are open to other ideas about what should and should not be included.

RE: Conspiracy Theories
As we gain more knowledge about the world around us; through psychology, definitions, scientific discoveries, philosophy, etc , we need to reassess our interpreations of the scripture using deductive reasoning.

That's how I would have phrsed it, to each their own Smile

And when science outright disproves a claim made in the bible, we say it was a metaphor to save face.

You can never go wrong.

Should the bible be taken literally or metaphorically?
