I can hold my hands up to a charge of intellectual dishonesty here, choosing to believe that something objectively less likely is true because it feels good to do so.
If you're going to cherry pick from a particular book, and doing that only because it makes you "feel good," then why don't you also cherrypick things from the Quran, Vedas, Torah, Dao De Jing, Meshaf Resh, Guru Granth Sahib, and other religious books all at the same time to make yourself feel even BETTER? You may as well go ahead and mix up all the different books of morality in a cherry-picked fashion to make yourself feel better, if you don't care about being objectively correct.
Oh I do. There are many secular and religious concepts I enjoy and fold into my world view. It's just most of the core ones come from the red letters of the bible. The ones I don't think apply to today's culture I ignore.
So far as the didactic, moral and legislative side it's the ones which seem most functional which I adopt rather than than the ones that feel better. It's the "spiritual" side which makes me feel good.
Perhaps it's like takeaway. You don't have to like everything on the Chinese menu to like Chinese food. And I will have the occasional pizza or indian. But Its more a question of being healthier since I've been eating (mainly) Chinese than liking it more.

Jacob seems to be saying it's all good as long as it gives "dem feels."
