The following is just my personal opinion -
Humans were killing each other long before Christianity was invented. If religions had never developed humans would still have fought over territory and resources for the past 2,000 years. If I waved a magic wand so everyone suddenly became an atheist our species would continue to have wars over territory, resources or some ideology or other.
