But Hitler was INDEED a Christian - his writings indicate that he believed that his god APPROVED of his actions

THe problem with your question is NOT the beliefs of people in Question - but what was the motivation for their actions
Lots of Christians killed because of belief in their god
It has never been established that others killed to eliminate belief in gods
IT is clear that Mao - and others - were killing to maintain POLITICAL control - and it was killing for their politics - not their lack of beliefs in imaginary spirits.
