Nobody has been killed in the name of atheism yet as far as I know. I've come across a few atheists who were trying to turn atheism into some kind of ideology, though. "Atheists should do this, atheists shouldn't do that, it's every atheist's duty to stamp out religion. etc etc" Luckily these fanatics are a minority who are unlikely to get into a position of power where 'atheism the ideology' becomes the state policy.

I think that's true for the 20th century. Christians were definitely killing people then but I think most of them were doing it in the name of Democracy rather than Christianity.
