There wasn't long standing hatred between Sunni and Shia pre-US invasion. The two groups would intermingle in Baghdad, marry, and not particularly live in separate neighbourhoods and with no help from Saddam Hussein. The sectarian conflict is the result of occupation. The subjugation of any country by an invading state inevitably involves massive disruption, and the resources available for everyday living plummet. Conflict is inevitable in such circumstances. You don't need the CIA. The idea that Iraq can be held up as an example of islamic terrorism is insulting to everybody's intelligence here. It beggars belief that people are still coming out with this garbage.
