Are you dangerous DP? Do Christians have anything to fear from you?
If I believed in a literal devil, that is to say some conscious force in the universe with the purpose to spread suffering and evil, I would say that this being was the author of the Islamo-Christian faith. What other tool has been so effective in spreading these things? It's probably the most effective way you can get good people to do evil things.
But I don't believe in a literal devil. There are just bad ideas that spread like viral memes. You don't hate the person sick with the virus, even as you fight the virus. Or if you prefer my shackles metaphor, you don't hate the slave as you fight slavery. This is how I see the Islamo-Christian. Even someone like Fred Phelps is someone I pity as a victim of this mind virus. It's not him speaking but the sickness of his mind.
This is an important distinction with someone who believes in a literal devil that makes bargains with people and schemes with collaborators. Bad ideas spread by they don't make deals. A literal devil can find willing allies and therefore people who share the guilt. Those who believe that their neighbors are working with the devil can be capable of doing anything to them.
Quote:According to Muslims, suicides go to hell!
And according to Christians, thou shalt not kill. Yet, that didn't stop Christians from killing throughout the years.
EDIT TO ADD MORE ON THIS:
When you have a religion that promotes a concept of eternal salvation with the requirement of joining the religion in order to be saved, you have a very dangerous faith. We're not just talking about your salvation but that of everyone you know and love. Would you stop me, using lethal force, if I was trying to throw your son or daughter into a lake of fire? How about if I were telling them that Heaven and Hell aren't real, causing their deconversion and thereby causing them to be thrown into a lake of fire after they die?
No wonder Islamo-Christianity has led to so much violence despite occasional lip service about peace, love and goodwill. All that feel-good stuff gets quickly dumped in the face of the imagined prospect of eternal damnation.
