Not necessarily. Your senses can sometimes fool you. This is how magicians make their living.

Well, the first time I saw grass I didn't know it was "green" until somebody TOLD ME it was "green".

You don't need someone to tell you that it is green, you know through teaching that the color the grass is is caleld 'green.'

But first somebody had to TELL ME it was green!

You wouldn't get the same understanding of things if someone walked up to you and said 'the grass is green' without first having observed green grass for yourself. Observance of a phenomena is stronger and increases understanding of it more than being told about a phenomena. Your senses are more powerful than another person's words. Comprendo?

As for your response on why you've not talked to your brother about your atheism, that's fair enough. I ca nsee why you wouldn't want to strain the family ties with such discussion. However, why don't you ask him about his religion and listen openly? It would be so that you might better understand why he believes what he believes, which is a good thing, obviously.

I don't need to ask him about his religion. I was raised in the same religion he was. And I already understand why he believes what he believes.... he was raised to believe it! If he was raised in a Muslim household his dinner prayers would be going to Allah instead of Jesus. This is pretty much the reason why most people believe in a particular religion.
