The preacher used a really good analogy yesterday, Have you ever picked up sticks in a yard. Some are really bent, some are just a little crooked, but none are really truly straight. When you bundle them up one by one, they seem to form a straight bundle. Perhaps this is like politicians, grouping together to hide their crookedness in the hopes they appear straight and true.
It's just a big good ol' boys club. Democrat or Republican, a lot of the time it doesn't seem to matter. People in power tend to just think they can do whatever the fuck they want, regardless of their political leanings.
Sort of like priests who fuck little kids.
Agreed, I don't believe the problem is with politics, or the church or even power. I'm not convinced power corrupts people, rather amplifies poor character or more precisely corrupt people abuse their power. Perhaps the continued choosing of the lesser of 2 evils in our party system here in the US has eroded the people within politics to the point it's only able to act corruptly?
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post
