Let’s say you travel from Indiana to Maine with Colt Dragoon you inherited from great-grandpappy, a gun not bought from a licensed dealer. You get pulled over for a broken rear light or something. The cop finds the gun and a quick check shows that you’re not a resident of Maine.
Unless you can prove you bought the gun in Maine, off to the pokey you go.

Aforementioned Colt is not considered a firearm.
It is an antique percussion cap muzzleloader - and exempt to almost all firearm regulations. In many states they can even be owned by felons.
For the record - I always found this stupid as shit.
A single shot flintlock pistol will get you just as dead as any scary black rifle......
