Any suggestions on entertaining kids for the weekend

I'd go to the zoo with you, I'm OK with a cheap ice cream too.

I never liked "road trips" as a kid, I suppose they are more comfortable now and kids have portable entertainment. Most fathers probably don't have the same urge to make their offspring face oblivion, experience nausea, cigarette smoke, heat stress, dehydration. Counting Volkswagens never really succeeded in redirecting my mind from expecting violent bloody harm.

The zoo was always good though, a short train trip, ferry across Sydney harbour and animals.

It probably wouldn't work but asking the kids what do they think would be a nice treat for their mother? Where would they like to take her?

When I was a kid we did the weeks long National Park road trips in a station wagon. This was way before the US Interstate highway system was anything like it is these days so I get what you're saying.
