How the fuck do you know that? did you read anything I said, there's plenty of people who do good just to get into "heaven" and there's plenty of people who try to blanket forgive themselves and hold bibles over the heads of starving people to convert them or they let them die. And there's also sectors of Christians in Africa that teach that condoms are worse than AIDS, how exactly are those things helping? you think just giving out food with baggage attached to it is truly helping? Maybe it is you that's warped.

Preaching is genuine? where's the proof for this nonsense they preach? how does it give people hope to believe in false realities? If I went over to Africa with a pixie fairy that gives you 1000 wishes does that mean I get to just teach my shit as fact or hold shelter and food over the heads of people who need help.

The plain fact is, there is no god and especially not for the poor and dying, gimme a fuckin break, a loving god makes 50%+ of the world poor as fuck, get real. The idea back in the day was that poor and sick people somehow angered their god and that was their sin being brought to the surface so to speak and that anything good that happened was god shining his light on them even though they were complete assholes ruining the world, aka the people with the power and money which they hijacked from the masses in the first place with lies and mythology, selling back their own livelihood and intergrity in small doses in a religion. Pityful.

What god? theres fucking thousands of gods and the areas of the world they are going to havnt heard of that particular bullshit story, they grew up with their own and these white bread christians try to go over their and dictate their lives with their religion, their ideas, their food, shelter and money they dont give them unless they accept another bullshit story.

And if you think not preaching while giving out food is hypocritical of them, then fuck them and that religion, sure they may be hypocrites in teh sense that their ancient mythology says that demons caused sickness and poverty when the fact is that thats bullshit and we've moved on to "its just good to help people out" not that you can be able to help, but its okay to help them but you can also prostelytize when they need help...now people are slowly realizing the stupid shit religious people try to push.

The missions really are the marketing arm of the church, but only mixed in with a large motivation to help others. It would be better if they were secular, because then there wouldn't be the apparent conflict of interest.

How the hell is that any different than what I suggested, Secular-aid for the fuckin' win, son.

Whether God is real or not, people who are hungry will be fed if you give them food. Whether God is real or not; acting on the belief that he is real and following the teachings of the bible is what a Christian should do. Don't conflate my idea of their genuine action with the idea that God is real.

You think they do good because they genuinely believe in a god, a god that wants them to do good but yet what would they do without that religion? would they still help if they thought it did them no good? You prove my point by saying they do good just for being good. Because being altruistic is inate in sentient beings, religion has jack shit to do with it.

No, I think they do good because they do good. The god part is mostly irrelevent. Trust me, if you are hungry and someone feeds you, they can blather on about whatever they want to and your belly will be no less full for listening to their sermon.

So that means its okay as long as they get the food? why should starving kids have to wait through hours of sermon to eat? fuck yourself for even defending that.
.
You're an idiot aren't you? This isn't even debateable in the scientific community that humans are very altruistic and so are other sentient beings like Dogs, Elephants, Lions. They all express these things called morals, altruism and what religious people might call a soul. I'm sorry you're so uneducated on basic inate instincts, but that doesn't mean you can say that only a religion causes people to do good and dont say thats not your argument. I bet youre going to say next that morality comes from a god, not from our altruistic past of having to live in tribes for hundreds of thousands of years? ridiculous.

Then you're saying the secular world is guilty of not helping this couple, they did not even say anything to them, so why are you downing the church and not drawing the secular community around this couple into the same criticism.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

I'm not saying anything of the sort. Please don't put words into my mouth, it's very rude and downright annoying, please don't do it again. I'm not trying to defend "the secular world", I was pointing out that the causes of this couple's situation are irrelevant to the platitudes they were given in lieu of practical help. I don't know if they are or were receiving assistance of any kind from any non-religious source; this is not my story and I don't know any more details than you beyond what was presented here. However, would a non-religious source offer platitudes of a similar nature to the religious one? If the couple paid a visit to a Social Security office or whatever, and the officials working there told them to place their trust in some immaterial and frankly imaginary entity instead of giving them practical assistance and/or advice, then you can bet your bible I'd be criticising them in the same way.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

That is what a homeless couple was told today. They are living in a motel because they were evicted from their apartment. The husband has been unemployed and looking for work, but their situation is only getting worse.

When will religious people, particularly Christians, realise that no prayer will provide housing and food? It is compassionate people who make these provisions.

Pointing to god is what is causing unnecessary suffering.

*sigh*

If you think that, you must be lost. God will show you the way. :S

"Sisters, you know only the north; I have traveled in the south lands. There are churches there, believe me, that cut their children too, as the people of Bolvangar did--not in the same way, but just as horribly. They cut their sexual organs, yes, both boys and girls; they cut them with knives so that they shan't feel. That is what the Church does, and every church is the same: control, destroy, obliterate every good feeling. So if a war comes, and the Church is on one side of it, we must be on the other, no matter what strange allies we find ourselves bound to."
