Want to point to the long track record of accomodation that religious thinkers and religious thought has? Sounds to me like you know some decent people who are sadly afflicted by religion. Either that or you're not a very good judge of when you are being judged. We can't even teach high school biology without them interjecting. Apparently, we can't offer certain health services without them interjecting, two people completely in love with each other can't be left alone and treated like everyone else because they're rubbing they're dicks together...without interjecting. These are just the most modern expressions of their "accomodating nature", limited by the severe restrictions that have been placed upon their ability to coerce or force compliance (unsurprisingly, they're always looking for a way around those as well, that's just how accomodating they are).
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I suppose I do know a lot of decent theists. My wife is a theist, and at least half my work colleagues, most of my friends, and my neighbours.

I can stand the street corner variety if that's what you mean, wolff, the ones that bawl out the hellfire threats at full volume while standing in a natural dead zone of the crowds streaming past and trying to get as far as possible from them without making eye contact. Those I just feel pity for. It's the "Don't worry, you'll find God one day if you just keep looking" ones that get my back up.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

My wife is a fundie from a fundie family. Doesn't seem to strain our marriage either. "Most" people are theists WW. You're likely to be surrounded by them through sheer force of numbers. Have you ever wondered whether or not the good relations you share with them might have something to do with simply being assumed to be part of the fold, in some way or another? At the very least "well, he hasn't found god yet, poor little guy, but someday he will, and he seems nice". That shit is unbearably insulting to me.

Yeah I love the street corner ones. Why does it bother you if someone says one day you'll find god if you keep looking? If someone says that to me I take it as a blessing / compliment.

No, that thought has never crossed my mind. It's not like that. I guess I'm not as cynical as you.

And here we leave that to the republicans. They're all about rapping themselves in the flag, declaring their undying love of Jesus and kissing babies. Take that away and they wouldn't know how to run for any office.

Call me cynical when you express your disbelief openly. Call me cynical when you ask them that question directly. People are strange as shit, I'm not assigning any absolute value to how or why people interact with people the way they do, but there is an assumption (well evidenced and demonstrated), when people are in groups, of everyone being "part of the fold". Just because the thought has never crossed your mind does not mean that "it isn't like that". Perhaps you simply prefer to see things differently in order to facilitate a smooth experience. See, you're accomodating, they may be taking inches left right and center, offering nothing in return, but you...are accomodating.
