Why do you think atheists feel judged by Christians

RE: Why do you think atheists feel judged by Christians
All religious groups are arrogant enough to believe out of all of humanity they are the the 'chosen' and therefore best. With that mindset its no wonder they judge. I find that everyone judges everyone for some reason or another its just particularly irritating when they do it because the consider themselves a special class of human because they think god said so.

I never believed not even as a child. My school read the bible to me when I was young. I had to go to the occasional service. My parents even got an old man to drip magic water on my head as a baby.

Maybe gods just playing hard to get. or maybe the magic water didn't have enough magic.

Just realized how messed up that looked. Just letting you know. My parents never left me alone with the old man. Big Grin

Neither did I, so I guess I'm off the hook for killing both god and christ (but you seem to be well on your way towards those ends Drich).

Since you have yet to demonstrate that a god even exists an its will is exactly as you say it is, the statement is not baseless. The fact that you have chosen to beleive in a deity that condemns those that don't think like you is very telling of your judgement. After all, the bible is so ambiguous I'm sure it would be easy to interpret in a way that one need not believe in a judgemental god.

I just thought I'd clarify that the quote I attributed to Christian was not actually his. This was what I meant to quote.

Christian Wrote:Judgement by proxy (God in this case) is something we can't evade. Therefore, the statement is baseless. It's the question of humans judging humans.

Quote:Drich wrote

In a word guilt.

If people feel guilt it is because of their conscience, ethics and morals, not disbelief in God or sin.

Quote:Because the realities of the situation places all of us in the same boat we are all sinners to an equal degree,

How are we all sinners to an EQUAL degree?? So a lawful citzen is exactly as sinful as a mass murderer? I thought God was just??

Quote:in that we are condemned to eternal separation from God because of our sin.

Christianity labels us as born sinners, which places us automatically in separation from "God", and only Jesus and the church can save you. What if you don't believe you are a born sinner in the first place, you have never been separated from this "God thing", and don't need Jesus to save you? Wouldn't that just be easier and more natural? Wouldn't this remove a large burden of unnecessary guilt that is pre-imposed on the so-called "sinner"?

Judge not lest ye be judged.

I figure Christians judging others are sinning.

Why is judgement of others a sin or even a bad thing anyway? Isn't it natural and spontaneous to judge others by such things as appearance and demeanor? And why is it pre-supposed that the judgement is always negative? I probably make just as many positive judgements of others in the course of a day.

Buddhism teaches non-judgement also, but more for self-liberating reasons rather than moralistic ones. If you judge someone, make it a correct one, but is apt to change at any given moment due to more information. Yet essentially, all judgement is empty and relative.

Not judging others (concluding something about the person rather than remaining open minded) is something that benefits you, yes. 'Sinning' is separation from God/ spiritual health.

Your last phrase I think is pseudo intellectualism.

For that you have to be ignorant enough to sustain the belief that religion and science are the same subject.

My niece asked me once why I'm so much happier than her father, my brother. But I'm sure in her mind it was in spite of my non-belief, not because of it.

I've never tried to justify my beliefs to them nor have they asked me too. I suspect they are afraid that whatever I say might shake their belief more than it will mine.

I don't hate fundy Christians. I feel sorry for them. I don't suppose their lives are very satisfying, but I know it is possible to be a theist and have a healthy regard for themselves, others and this life. Some don't feel certain of an after life and don't care. They don't have to be at odds with science. Some ready the bible for its wisdom stories and don't care if every bit is inspired or true. I think contemplation of a God as a kind of personification of what is best, unshackled by a literal bible, could actually be enriching and uplifting. It isn't for me but it seems to be possible to be a very interesting and worthy person while being this kind of theist.

Do not feel sorry for me and I'm glad you do not hate people like me. My life is very satisfying, serving God to serve other is most satisfying. I also read the Bible for it's wisdom, wisdom from an omniscient God who makes my life better because I trust in Him. Believing the Bible is literal is not a shackling, it is liberating, to know God through Jesus sets one free when one will take the time to see the truth and live in a relationship with Christ. This is the nature of scripture.

Wow Drich...I thought you might be fucked up but this cinches it...you poor wee thing.

No no one here feels guilt. Just put upon to defend science/ knowledge and reality from idiots like yourself

Isn't the above that I put into bold judging, how do you know that some of the non-believers do not feel guilt. Even though one may say they feel no guilt that by no means is absolute, at least in my experiences with other.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
