Would you date a Christian Moderate?
I'm engaged to one (depends on how you interpret moderate). She's essentially an agnostic theist. We get along famously.

One can date anyone. But marrying anyone is not possible. I would certainly not marry a christian, if she would not leave her religious identity in favor of her ethnic one.

Why not someone of the same sex, or are we assuming that though moderate, this hypothetical person wouldn't be in a gay relationship? Smile

Yes, I probably would.
But I wouldn't get married (I assume he would want to get married in a church and I sure as hell wouldn't), I wouldn't have kids with him (no young children for him to indoctrinate and I don't want any children myself) and I wouldn't talk religion with him, unless he wanted to. I think those kind of debates could seriously strain a relationship.

Fortunately my bf is an atheist, so no problems here (yet..) Big Grin

When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

RE: Would you date a Christian Moderate?
My answer would be no, since I now have a general policy of not dating any kind of theist. In my experience even theists who aren't particularly devout still have difficulty understanding why somebody would be an Atheist or Agnostic. I experienced this when I dated a pretty Liberal "nominal" Indonesian Muslim woman. Mind you she was pretty easy to get along with compared to the Pentecostal women I have dated (I know now it was a bad idea, however I plea youth, ignorance and stupidity).

I'm married to one, but I think that even using the word 'moderate' to describe her is too strong. A better way to describe her would be someone that is unwilling to denounce the residual layer of Catholicism that was implanted in her brain as a child. In fact, the closest she ever gets to discussing religion is saying 'God bless you' when someone sneezes.

Who wouldn't want to marry someone who is willing to believe anything at a drop of a hat!

on a more serious note, I don't think it matters, if its their personal belief, and don't require conversion, and able to hold a solid conversation about such things.. its a petty thing to hold against someone.

I was still calling myself a Christian when I met my wife and she was calling herself a Christian too. Now I'm atheist and she's agnostic.

If I was on the dating scene no, I wouldn't date a Christian of any level. Now that I'm married, if my wife were to decide for some crazy reason to go back to Christianity would I leave her? Hell no. But to start a relationship with completely different views from the get go doesn't work. It can change later down the road maybe once your relationship is established of you're both mature though.

RE: Would you date a Christian Moderate?
It doesn't seem to be an issue between my wife and myself. She's not exactly a moderate either. Of the few times it's even come up as conversation she's mentioned that she doesn't see religion in the same way she once did, but that this hasn't really had an effect on her personal beliefs.

I am married to a mild catholic, I've told her views are pretty much deistic, but religion never played any significant role in our lives. We have fought many times, none due to religion.
