Stewart and Cobert not on my local channel

RE: Stewart and Cobert not on my local channel
Bill Maher is a snob. He's stuck up, pompous, arrogant, and smug.

And it's hard to be anything else when you're pretty much right all the time. The man is a genius. I never even heard of him until Religulous and that movie was basically what ultimately was the final nail in the coffin, resulting in me completely de-converting. I've only seen a few segments of his show, but each time I see it I always have some good laughs when he lambasts the poor bastards who try to debate him.

I like both Stewart and Colbert equally. Jon's more outright insulting of stupidity [my style] and Colbert is more subtle. He's more of a troll. He IS a troll. He is an IRL troll-master. The man goes to Bush's white house dinner and blasts him all the while staying in character to the point people aren't sure if he's being serious or not. Jon's more the "dear fucking christ what is wrong with these idiots?!" kind of person and Colbert is more the "Oh yes! I agree that the murder of a thousand people is fine as long as it is someone who thinks differently than you!" kind of guy who sounds totally serious. Deadpan comedy. It's a difficult art and he pulls it off really damn well.

The two of them together are a fucking hurricane-level force of comedy.

I despise Maher. Especially for his anti-vaccine lunacies.

And as much as I despise overtly religious people -- mostly because I often find they use their religious artifacts as a vessel for their beliefs (of which they also know little of) instead of internalizing them, like one who genuinely believes -- I find Maher's style of dealing with them to be just as offensive.

Religulous was funny at first. Then it got tired and cliched, with Maher becoming increasingly offensive to make a joke, often at people who DIDN'T provoke it. It's not as if he found the most offensive preacher every time and exposed them -- more often, he'd deal with normal people and mock them, becoming more crude each time.

Stewart represents an older style of "What the hell guys?" commentary that I find refreshing. But still, the second one of them gets locked into a ridiculous ideology and off I go to the next one.

Bill Maher is standing up to bullies and arrogant jackasses on the right. The right wing in this country needs to be verbally bitch slapped.

"Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions" Thomas Jefferson.

That is what Bill is doing and is what needs to be done.

The man is fuckwitted dropkick arsewipe who is agin vaccinating children. Fuck him.

'Religulous' was as funny as cancer, with cheap shots at soft targets. The American lunar religious right are already self parodies.

George Carlin was a comic genius and biting social commentator:

Ricky Gervais makes Mahler look like the neanderthal he is.

Gervais's reading of genesis is also a great laugh (but not nearly as funny as his story about the healthy gay sex pamphlet, I couldn't breathe).

It's not fair though to compare a stand up comic's routine to a show's host who preforms weekly, or nightly even. The stand up spends ages perfecting his routine, and then he'll have that for a year or more. These guys take current events and make jokes about them (and have people write their jokes), it's not the same thing. I've seen some Mahar other than religulous, it's ok. He does have some good moments (which are the one's I would have seen), but compare it to other shows like it (take the colbert report/the daily show or here in Aus the old 'The Glass House' or the political commentary sections of the Chaser's). Not bad, just not consistently funny.
