The school and teachers would in no way push for other students to join...(only the students/parents would be able to make the choice on their own) and the prayer time would only be offered during their recess or break period thereby not actually taking time away from actual education.

My high school had a prayer circle by the flag pole some mornings before school. The faculty had nothing to do with it. This sort of gathering is *already legal* in the USA. The problem arises when you have public officials leading & organizing .

But that's exactly what we had in my school. The prayer circle was lead by a creationist science teacher, of all things.

No it's not. The teachers did not get involved at my high school.

I found it strange that the prayer group at my school always gathered around the flag pole. Americans truly are obsessed with the idea that they are living in a country that not only has god's approval but is also his favorite. That's always creeped me out.

I wasn't implying they got involved. Perhaps I didn't word that correctly. We had plenty of staff involvement in religion at my public high school.

How many of you would be alright [sic] with teaching that 2 + 3 = 156 in a public school if it was only endorsed for the students of the school who wanted to have it taught that way?

Students don't get to vote on how bad their education can be. Nor, since the Constitution prohibits the government from making any law that would allow what you propose, can the students be given the choice of having the school violate the Constitution. Are you advocating a Constitutional amendment allowing the government to make laws regarding religion? (Think carefully about what that would mean to ALL the not-majority religions. Most religions would fight violently against such an amendment. Just look to Louisiana to see what might happen.)
